Cookie Policy
Last updated: 14 August 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Isle of Moss uses cookies and similar browser storage on theisleofmoss.com. We keep this to a minimum — just what is needed to run the shop well. For how we handle personal data more broadly, see our Privacy Policy.
What cookies and local storage are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. “Local storage” is a similar technology that lets a site remember information on your device between visits. Both let the site recognise your browser and remember things like what is in your cart or the choices you have made.
Why we use them
We use them to keep your shopping cart, remember your cookie preference so we don't ask again, keep checkout secure, and remember small interface choices like whether you have dismissed a first-order offer. We are not currently using cookies to track you across other websites or to serve advertising.
Cookie categories
These match the categories in our on-site cookie banner:
- Essential — always on. These make the site work: your cart, checkout, and your saved cookie choice. Without them the shop cannot function.
- Functional — remember convenience choices, like dismissing the first-order offer. Off unless you allow them.
- Analytics — help us understand how the shop is used. If you allow this category we load Google Analytics 4 and our self-hosted PostHog instance (page views, plus completed orders). Nothing in this category runs until you allow it.
- Marketing — would measure campaigns and offers. We do not currently load any marketing or advertising scripts.
Rejecting Analytics keeps the shop working. You can change your choice later by clearing site data, which brings the banner back.
What we actually store
Here are the specific items we set in your browser and why:
| Key | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| isleofmoss-cart-v2 | Remembers your shopping cart | Essential | Local storage; kept until cleared |
| isleofmoss_cookie_consent | Stores your cookie preference so we don't ask again | Essential | Local storage; about 1 year |
| isle_of_moss_offer_dismissed | Remembers you dismissed the first-order offer | Functional | Local storage; kept until cleared |
| HitPay cookies | Payment security and session during checkout | Essential (third party) | Set by HitPay during checkout |
| _ga / _ga_* | Google Analytics 4 — anonymous traffic measurement | Analytics | Set by Google if you allow Analytics |
| ph_* / posthog | Self-hosted PostHog — page views and checkout outcomes | Analytics | Local storage / cookie if you allow Analytics |
Durations are a guide. Items stored in your browser's local storage remain until they expire or you clear them.
Third parties
HitPay sets its own cookies during checkout to keep payments secure. Google Analytics 4 runs only after you allow Analytics. PostHog is self-hosted by us; the browser talks to this site first (/ingest), not to a third-party ad network. Google Fonts may be used to load the site's typefaces, which can expose your IP address to Google as part of serving those fonts. These are governed by the respective providers' own privacy and cookie policies.
Managing your preferences
When you first visit, our cookie bar appears at the bottom of the screen with three choices: Accept all, Reject all, and Manage preferences, where you can turn Functional, Analytics, and Marketing on or off individually. Essential items stay on because the shop needs them. Nothing beyond essential is set until you make a choice, and your choice is remembered for about a year.
You can also control cookies through your browser settings — blocking or deleting them at any time. Clearing your browser storage will also reset your saved cookie choice, so the banner will appear again on your next visit.
If you reject non-essential
The shop will keep working normally. Your cart and checkout rely only on essential storage. Rejecting Functional cookies simply means we won't remember smaller conveniences, such as whether you dismissed the first-order offer, so you may see it again.
Updates and contact
We may update this policy as the shop changes. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and if we add analytics or marketing tools we will update the banner too. Questions? Email isleofmoss@gmail.com or message us on WhatsApp. You can also read our Privacy Policy.
